General Information about Pugs

Body Color(s): apricot-fawn, black or silver, w/ black muzzle pattern , ears, cheek moles, and trace down back
Pug Coat: The Pug has a very short, soft fine coat. Should be glossy and smooth without being woolly or hard to touch. Pugs have a characteristic soft black muzzle. The tail is curly with slightly broken hair.

It is not a proven fact, but most people believe that this breed came from Asia before 400 BC while others believe they were brought back by Dutch traders. Behavior Characteristics: The size of the pug is sometimes under-estimated. They are small in stature but a great as guard dogs that are sturdy, protective and devoted. This breed does not respond well to angry tones in the voice so training should be gentle but firm. Pugs should never shows signs of being timid or having aggression but rather friendly and playful.
Pug Personality: This breed gets along with almost anyone including other dogs because they are full of joy and cheer, but can get very jealous at times around strangers. They are great family dogs because they usually do well with all children even ill-behaved kids who can agitate the dog.
Grooming Care: The Pug does not require a lot of regular grooming. They have a tendency to drool so cleaning the muzzle or mouth area should be done once a week. Clean under the folds of the skin to prevent itchy, dry skin. Bathing should be done only when needed to avoid stripping the skin or coat of its natural oils.
Behavior Training: This breed can be stubborn and willful but is easy to please its owner. They have a short attention span and get bored very easily so training should be fun and consistent. Training for the pug should be done at an early age to be more effective.
Daily Activity: Even though the pug is a small breed they are extremely active indoors and out. They love taking walks , but if they are long water should be brought along as they are prone to breathing problems and tire easily. They do very well in an apartment or condo setting, but can adapt to almost any environment. They will perform any exercise that you provide so it should be done on a regular basis. A healthy diet is recommended because they will over-eat, gain weight and become very lazy.
