Pomeranian Coat: The Pomeranian has a long double coat. To help reduce shedding you should brush the coat once a week paying special attention to the cotton like undercoat. Over brushing will damage the coat.
General Information: This breed is full of life and eager to learn. Give them a proper slow introduction to other households pets in order for them to get along. . Recommended for families with well-behaved older children and older people looking for a loyal companion.
Behavior Characteristics: The Pomeranian is a very active breed. They are extremely loyal to their family,gentle, affectionate, loving and intelligent. They express curiosity and inquisitive expressions.
Pomeranian Personality: This breed is outgoing, confident and commanding. With such a small body frame and a somewhat temperamental personality this breed is not recommended in families with small kids. They will bark if they sense danger making them great watch dogs.
Grooming Care: As mentioned above weekly brushing of this breed is recommended to avoid knot and tangles of the long coat. Pomerania's are prone to tooth loss so dental hygiene is a must, brushing teeth on a regular basis. Feeding this breed dry food will help keep teeth and gums clean.
Behavior Training: Pomerania's are easily trained in obedience and are quick learners but need stern instructions. Incessant barking will occur if not controlled at an early age. Not the easiest breed to housebreak, but with constant training and praise do well in a litter box and eventually outside.
Daily Activity: Family play time and short walks make this breed happy. This breed tends to get bored easy if not given a task to do so teaching tricks is a good way to occupy their time. Just remember it takes time and you must have patience. Great dog for small homes with a fenced in yard or an apartment.
